Tess Bruns: An E.S Muse

TESS BRUNS OF @phoebephilofan

 AN E.S MUSE

For those who understand the magic of Pheobe Philo’s Celine years, Tess Bruns needs little introduction. A creative force with a discerning eye and a quietly magnetic presence, Tess has carved out a distinct space in the fashion conversation-one rooted in intentionality, timelessness and story. I am delighted to introduce Tess as our newest E.S Muse.

IN CONVERSATION WITH TESS

Tess Bruns launched @pheobephilofan as a personal archive of her favorite Celine pieces from Pheobe Philo’s era. It quickly evolved into a platform celebrating thoughtful, timeless design- and a quiet point of connection for a global community of like-minded ‘Philophiles’.

WHY PHOEBE?

Phoebe Philo designs with an understanding of the real lives of women, creating clothes that are both empowering and functional. She doesn’t chase trends. Instead her focus is on timeless pieces that allow for personal expression while quietly connecting you to a community of women who simply get it. It’s more than fashion:it’s a lifestyle, a kind of shared language.

WHAT INSPIRES YOUR PERSONAL STYLE & CREATIVE SHOOTS?

It’s often intuitive. Inspiration might come from a painting, a shadow on the sidewalk or a mood I want to evoke. I love playing with contrasts-pairing an elegant outfit with a gritty industrial backdrop or a photographing against bold architectural lines. At the heart of everything I do is storytelling.

WHERE DO YOU LOVE TO SHOP?

My shopping mix includes some great local Austin spots- Moss and Cookie Monster Vintage are favorites, along with Vada, Showroom and Kickpleat. Online, I hunt for secondhand treasures on The Real Real and Vestiaire Collective. When I travel I make it a point to seek out unique boutiques. I’m heading to Paris soon and plan to revisit Les Puces de Saint-Ouen-last time I was there, I found the most incredible chunky gold earrings.

WHAT DRAWS YOU TO ESHA SONI?

Esha’s designs are thoughtful, empowering, transcend trends and are rooted in the needs of real women. And now more than ever, I am drawn to socially responsible and ethical brands.

WHAT’S ON YOUR WISHLIST FROM ESHA SONI?

There are so many Esha Soni bags that I love, but if I had to pick one it would be The Slope in snow leopard. It’s the kind of piece that elevates anything you pair it with, and is truly the epitome of wearable art.I also love its versatility- it seamlessly converts from a crossbody to a clutch and the removable bangle can we worn separately as a sculptural bracelet.

YOUR FAVORITE LOCAL SPOTS IN AUSTIN?

I love starting the day with a grapefruit brown sugar latte at Terrible Love, flipping through fashion and design magazines at First Light Books, and browsing the curated housewares at Tiny Grocer. For date nights, Uchi and Uchiko are staples. I’m also a big fan of Sage Studio, which showcases Texas artists with intellectual and developmental disabilities—it’s both a gallery and a deeply inspiring community space.

WHAT DO YOU VALUE MOST WHEN DISCOVERING NEW PIECES FOR YOUR WARDROBE?

I’m looking for longevity, craftsmanship, and that ineffable spark—a piece that feels like it belongs in my life. I want items that tell a story, that I’ll keep reaching for again and again.

AN EMERGING DESIGNER OF THE MOMENT

Ruadh- for blending sustainability with beautiful design.I’m always excited by creators who approach their work with care and consciousness.
